Vintage Diaries - Chapter 1 - 1930s

How do you say, 'Hi, welcome back to my blog, sorry I've been MIA AGAIN' without sounding like a broken record?! I'm all out of ideas but it feels so good to be sharing with you again :)

I hope you lovely readers are well and having a great 2016 so far (Rockstar tragedies and all :( RIP Prince, God rest his soul). I've had a few exciting changes myself but top of that list is probably securing a studio in the vibrant 'Biscuit Factory' in SE16 :D It's so refreshing and creatively challenging working alongside other artists - painters, sculptors, jewellery makers etc who are all so brilliant at what they do. Hands up if you notice the new blog design :), hands down if you don't like it :( lol I hope you do!

As many of you might have figured out already, I'm deeply inspired by vintage fashion - hard to pick a favourite era but anything pre 1970s has my heart. So imagine the excitement when a couple of friends decide to have themed parties for their 30th birthdays - one 'Touch of Vintage' and the other '80s'. Sayo, who is featured in my '12 under 30' post (check out March 2015), put together a fun, classy 30th do with her twin brother. I was delighted to commission a unique vintage style piece for the birthday girl. She wasn't fussed about the era and pretty much trusted me to design something she would look superb and feel comfortable in.

According to The Complete Fashion Sourcebook by John Peacock, here is a description of the 1930s - The fashionable clothes of the previous period, which had been drawn with bold outlines, no waist, abbreviated hemlines and a denial of feminine curves, gave way to a longer, leaner and more figure-hugging silhouette which defined the waist, accentuated the shoulders and narrowed the hips. The fashionable thirties woman emerged mature, understated, cautious and, above all, sophisticated.

This to me was the perfect fit for Sayo. Opting for a rich blue tone velvet and an opulent beaded lace trim, here's what I came up with:

And there, my slight interpretation of the 30s, I think I did it some justice :) Comments are welcome!

12 Days of Christmas - Day 5

On the fifth day of Christmas, WF brings to you... 5 floral and lace dresses.

About 2 weeks ago, I celebrated my 25th birthday in style, hosting a ladies brunch with a few beautiful and inspiring women :) Dress code (as I'm a sucker for themed parties) was florals and laces. I made 2 lace numbers for myself, 2 florals and a lace for my friends and sisters. (#wuwuat25 on Instagram)

The first of my lace numbers: blush pink midi lace dress.

The Second of my lace numbers: ivory lace dress with pale blue underlay.

A Floral smock dress for my sister.

Mint floral body con dress for my friend Janet.

Off shoulder pink lace dress for my sister Gifty

And that's all for the dresses:) Peep some of the little details that made the day very special. Sweet treats table all done by my very gifted sis Doyin.

Ho ho ho Merry Christmas!

Quarter of a century & then some...

Hey lovely readers :) So I said in my last post that 2014 is an exciting year! Well, hello March, excitement has begun :D Besides the many weddings lined up (iLOVE WEDDINGS), it is also the year of landmark birthdays. I myself will be 25 in December, woop!!
Today's post features the Bold, the Bright & the Beautiful. Two of my dearest friends Janet & Yinka (a regular face on this blog) turn 25 & 30 respectively this March. I'm blessed to have these ladies in my life, each one sits in different special places in my heart, lol! So as is common tradition at my church, they decided to do special thanksgiving for their lives. I was really glad that they opted for WuraFola dresses for the special occasion. I should also add that they both serve in the hospitality department(the ladies featured in my 'For the love of womanity' post in March 2013) at church, hence the lovely kitchen set-up in the photos.

Right, so here goes the BOLD aka Janet Nneka Jaey Omalicha! Ha!! She opted for silver sequins for her silver Jubilee nicely paired with black accessories. Who says you can't wear sparkly in the daytime?!!!

And then the BEAUTIFUL aka Yinka Yinkurr Americana Sheedat ChicksBeLike! lool! She makes 30 look like 21! We opted for a very simple silhouette; to let her intricate figure to do the talking ;) in a lovely pastel blue which our darling Lupita Nyong'o has just tagged the 'Nairobi Blue' on the Oscars red carpet ( I watch as I type right now lol)

And lastly, the BRIGHT aka me of course! lool! The bright mind behind these lovely designs you've come on here to see, woop! :) :) Ok it's actually more about the colour I chose to wear: Orange!! Love this on my skin tone. I had to make myself something special too, xoxoxo

*whew* that's 3 dresses in one long overdue post :) I hope you like them as I much as I do. A mini surprise party was thrown for these lovely ladies right here in the kitchen!! Look out for the AMAZING cake made by my dear sister with the gifted hands.

ALL DRESSED IN WF ;)

and OMG look what's happened here:
